Hey everyone! Just thought I’d pop in here and update you all on what’s going on with me.

Nearly a month ago, Hurricane Harvey hit my hometown of Houston. While I myself was not a victim of the storm, my mother was. The house that I grew up in had five feet of water in it. This is not the first time that my mother endured this kind of loss. In 2009, the interior of the very same house was destroyed by a fire. While the fire was an accident, I was the one responsible for causing it to happen. Furthermore, I nearly lost my life in it. Needless to say, the demolition of the house post-Harvey and the process of rebuilding has triggered that old trauma from 2009 and all the feelings of guilt that come with it.

I have spent a lot of time helping my mom with the rebuilding process but it has been a huge strain on my mental health. I already suffer from anxiety, depression, and PTSD, but I’ve been experiencing very PHYSICAL symptoms over the past month. Chest pain, shortness of breath, and indigestion are three primary examples. Furthermore, despite an increase in physical activity over this past month, I have gained 10 lbs since August 23. My weight naturally fluctuates, but I have never gained that much that fast. I am currently the heaviest I’ve ever been, and I think that is related to the stress too.

Yesterday I saw a doctor and she got me started on some medication to help with the anxiety (especially the physical symptoms). Next week I’m seeing a psychiatrist as well. My hope is that soon I will be able to cope with this stress and get back to normal levels of activity.

I’m so sorry that I have accomplished so little during this time. The next comic page is coming along, albeit slowly. Thank you all for your patience and support during this trying time.

If their doorbell doesn't play Abracadabra by the Steve Miller Band, I fucking quit.
